As-salamu alaykum! My name Dee-Neishae’. Recently, I graduated from the London Metropolitan University from where I obtained an LLB Law Degree. I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer for as long as I can remember. The reason why I chose law was because I want to help change the world in the hopes of making it a better place for everyone. I am also a proud owner of a lifestyle blog in the hopes of being a positive role model to women and girls. I hope normalize the hijab to non-Muslims around the world.
My mother has a career in a medical background, whilst my grandmother has always been an entrepreneur.
I am originally from Bermuda; however, my family largely comes from different locations around the Caribbean. I have a large family with 4 sisters and 5 brothers (2 of whom are my step-brothers). My family was an extremely cultural and Christian household growing up. Every Sunday, my family would go to the church service and my siblings and I would attend religious camps during holidays. We were still very supportive of women working and making decisions on their own which is something I appreciated. Both the men and women in my family try to respect the decisions my siblings and I make and support us as best as they can. My mother has a career in a medical background, whilst my grandmother has always been an entrepreneur. I would say my family believes that women can choose whether they would want to work or stay home.
Which brings me to my next point – how strong of an influence my mother and grandmother were on me while I was growing up. My mother is a beautiful soul who would do anything possible to help anyone. My mother has always been the person anyone could talk to about anything and is always helping people as much as she can. She takes time out of her day to speak to the homeless individuals around Bermuda. She is a great influence to me because she taught me to be kind to everyone no matter what their walk of life is. Even for most of the activities I wanted to do growing up, she supported me and even allowed to express myself in the clothing I wore and the extra curricular activities I chose to do.
My grandmother has always been a stubborn individual. She is a woman to whom you can never say no to, as once she has set her mind on something, it will be done. She has created numerous ideas for businesses which the government helped set up. I believe her hardheadedness as well as her care for others has driven her to accomplish so much in her life. I am extremely grateful for having her as a guardian in my life; she has taught me to believe in myself and to never take no for an answer.
I met Lindell when I was in the middle of my high school career. Whilst having her as a mentor, I matured both socially and professionally.
Another positive influence in was my mentor, Lindell, who was an extremely important role model in my life. I met Lindell when I was in the middle of my high school career. Whilst having her as a mentor, I matured both socially and professionally. Growing up I was an awkward kid that found it hard to speak to anyone; Lindell helped me to accept who I am and come out of my shell. She was such a strong and supportive role model in my life as she always had a smile regardless of any circumstances.
As mentioned earlier, I love to blog on the side. A number of people have inspired me to start sharing my lifestyle, fashion, and day-to-day activities. I would say my mother was the largest influence; as I said before she always told me to be a positive light in life. I’ve started my blog in order to help individuals receive style inspiration as well as see that modesty can also be fashionable. I feel that amongst the millennial age group the best way to reach out to them and have influence over them is through social media. I want to be a positive influence to people around the world.
I have learned so much from each of the women in my life. Being able to look up to them really helped shape who I am as a person today. From my career, to my blog, to my personality – my mother, grandmother, and Lindell had huge impacts on me. My mother taught me kindness, my grandmother taught me leadership, and my mentor helped me break out of my comfort zone. I hope to be just as much of a role model to the women around me, as these women were to me.
